Introduction to General Ledger Rollup

It is standard practice to reconcile the GL balances with 3rd party on daily basis for Interfaces like ATM, Clearing, Mobile Remote Deposit Capture, Interac Email Money Transfer, Etc. In order to ease the transaction, performances or monitoring institutions generally configure the GL based on the category, so the GL account is automatically formed based on the customer or account branch to avoid inter branch accounting and overhead around the same. Hence the roll up functionality rolls up or moves the balances from all branch GL to head office GL, so that institutions can reconcile the report or balances with 3rd party interface vendor.

The banking system allows the movement of the GL totals from multiple GL’s to another GL or to the institution level by using category to specified GL, the movement of GL is restricted with the same currency.

The active rollup entries are picked up part of COB for moving the funds. This is the last activity before the system date change. The From Account(s) will have a zero balance, when the GL rollup is completed. The system has the ability to log the status of the transactions (reporting) after the rollup.

ABM operations is a department, which deals with all the transactions that originate at an automated banking machine (ABM) or point of sale (POS) machines. There are different networks that send transactions through to third party system (i.e Cardtronics or Switch Provider which are then routed to the bank. There are some networks that pass along only ATM transactions and some networks that pass along only POS transactions. There are currently two networks that supply both ATM and POS transactions (example Interac and CUG are networks). Temenos Transact transfers the balance of the ATM general ledgers into one grand total and the POS into another grand total at the end of the business day. It is called GL Rollup. The GL rollup only transfers balances, not detailed transaction types.

GL Rollup Group Definition

The GLROUP.ROLLUP.PARAMETER is developed within this functionality and is used for basic level of parameter configuration. To raise the funds movement between GL accounts, the system considers the FT versions and OFS details to proceed.

GL Rollup Processing

A batch job which selects the active GL rollup group is defined during COB (close of business) for GL rollup process. The system moves funds from Source Account/Category to Target Account field till last multi-value is defined. The transfer of fund from source to target is done using the FUNDS.TRANSFER application.

GL Rollup Report

After the COB completion, the system has the ability to display the report based on GL rollup log file updated part of COB using the file enquiry which has the following selection criteria:

  • GL Rollup Group (non-mandatory).
  • Processing Date (mandatory).

The system returns the GL rollup log file based on the selection. If the GL rollup group is not mentioned in the selection system displays the report based on the processing date selection.

The benefits for this functionality are:

  • The GL rollup allows the user to generate a report of the grouped accounts ledgers.
